-అంటూ సంసారపక్షపు నడిపాత ఆంధ్రపత్రికనే చడామడా దులిపాడు శ్రీశ్రీ! కూడబలుక్కున్నట్టు చెలరేగి తెలుగు జనానికి పిచ్చెత్తేలా బుద్ధి శుద్ధి చేస్తున్న గొప్ప పత్రికల దూకుడును ఈ కాలంలో చూసి ఉంటే మైకం ఠక్కున దిగి మహాకవి ఏమి చేసేవాడో! ఏమి రాసేవాడో!!
ప్రపంచం ఎంతో ముందుకు పోయినా, జర్నలిజం గురించి మన అవగాహన మాత్రం తాతలకాలం దగ్గరే ఆగిపోయింది. ఇది చాలా బోలెడు ఘోరం. కాకి బంగారపు దీపాల్లా ధగధగ వెలుగుతున్న రాజా పత్రికలను చూసైనా నిక్కమైన పత్రికా రచన అంటే ఏమిటో, ఎలా ఉండాలో తెలుసుకోవటం ప్రతి తెలుగువాడి తక్షణ కర్తవ్యం.

ఉదాహరణకు - ప్రజలకు దారి చూపాల్సిన పత్రికను నడిపే వాడికి కొంచెం నీతి, కాస్త నిజాయతి, రవంత వృత్తి నిబద్ధత, ఆవగింజలో వెయ్యోవంతు నిష్పాక్షికత, సత్యసంధత ఉంటాయని, ఉండాలని మనం చాదస్తంగా అనుకుంటున్నాం.
తప్పు! పత్రికను నడిపించేవాడికి కనీసం కిరోసిన్‌ను స్మగ్లింగ్ చేసిన లోకోత్తర పూర్వానుభవమైనా ఉండి ఉండాలి. వెధవది కిరసనాయిలునే సరిహద్దు దాటించి వేరే రాష్ట్రానికి చేరవేయలేనివాడు ప్రజాప్రయోజనాలను సమస్యలు దాటించి సురక్షిత గమ్యానికి ఎలా చేరవేయగలడు?
అలాగే - పాచినోటితో లోకానికి నీతులు ఉపదేశించే పత్రికాధిపతికి కనీసం ఒక పొలిటికల్ పార్టీలో పాలేరుగా పనిచేసి, ఓ మహానేతాశ్రీ పనుపున డబ్బు మూటలు బట్వాడా చేసిన పావన చరిత్ర ఉంటే మంచిది. మొన్నటిదాకా పూటకు ఠికానాలేని వాడివి ఏకంగా పెద్ద పత్రికనే ఎలా కొట్టెయ్యగలిగావంటే గాండ్రించి, డబాయించి, మీదపడి కరిచి నోళ్లు మూయించగల సత్తా ఉండటం బెటరు. తనకు ఏమీ తెలియకపోయినా అన్నీ తెలిసినట్టు నడమంత్రపు సిరితో కంపరం పుట్టేలా మిడిసిపడి, పెద్దంతరం చిన్నంతరం లేకుండా ఎంతటి వాళ్లన్నయినా గడ్డిపరకల్లా తీసిపారేసి, లక్షలమందికి ఆరాధ్యులైన వారి మీద కూడా గిట్టనివారి పురమాయింపుపై అభాండాల బండలు రువ్వగలిగిన గొప్ప సంస్కారం ఎంత ఉంటే అంత మేలు.
అదే మాదిరిగా - పత్రికారంగాన్ని ఉద్ధరించేందుకే భూమి మీద అవతారమెత్తిన మహానుభావుడికి కనీసం తనది కాని భూమిని దర్జాగా కబ్జా చేసి, రామప్పంతులులా కేసులు బనాయించి, అసలు హక్కుదారులను బతికినంతకాలం ఏడిపించి, ఉసురు పోసుకోగలిగినంత మంచితనమైనా కంపల్సరీ! ఎన్నివేల ఎకరాలను ఎంత అప్పనంగా కాజేస్తే, ఎన్ని కంపెనీలు పెట్టి ఎన్ని నిబంధనల నడ్డి విరగ్గొట్టి ఎన్ని అక్రమాలకు పాల్పడితే... ఊసరవెల్లికి సిగ్గొచ్చేలా సమయానికి తగ్గట్టు ఎన్ని రంగులు మారిస్తే అంత పేరు! అంత పొగరు!!

You have announced a new set of norms to regulate TV channels. This comes after what the government felt was biased coverage of Anna Hazare’s campaign. What prompted these moves?

Do you think that once the movement was over in August, we decided to come out soon after with the guidelines? Perhaps those who obtained broadcast licences forgot to read the guidelines on the ministry’s website. Licences to TV channels are given for 10 years. What does one do after that? All we did was to lay down the rules for renewal, subject to TV channels observing the programme code passed in Parliament. These guidelines have been on the website since February. Also, there are uplinking and downlinking guidelines spelling out the reasons for cancellation of licences. We have said that any decision (on cancellation) will be taken only after consultation with self-regulatory bodies and organisations. What’s wrong with that? The reason behind raising the investment level is to keep non-serious players out.
