Wake up to the The Hindu – Times of India Ad War | Mutiny

Wake up to the The Hindu – Times of India Ad War | Mutiny: "Hearing the name of Hindu news paper evokes respect and brings to our mind the picture of a grand old man sharing wisdom in its grammatical best. ‘Thou shall read the Hindu Editorial” was the first commandment of the English teacher at school, which had to be religiously followed. Of late the grand old man was facing a series of challenges in his own bastion Chennai from the young and handsome Times of India. The doomsayers predicted The Hindu to die a natural death. But the grand old man struck back taking Times of India to the cleaners."

10 Predictions for the News Media in 2011 Mashable 10 Predictions for the News Media in 2011 | The top source for social and digital news

10 Predictions for the News Media in 2011 Mashable 10 Predictions for the News Media in 2011 | The top source for social and digital news: "In many ways, 2010 was finally the year of mobile for news media, and especially so if you consider the iPad a mobile device. Many news organizations like The Washington Post and CNN included heavy social media integrations into their apps, opening the devices beyond news consumption.

In 2011, the focus on mobile will continue to grow with the launch of mobile- and iPad-only news products, but the greater focus for news media in 2011 will be on re-imagining its approach to the open social web. The focus will shift from searchable news to social and share-able news, as social media referrals close the gap on search traffic for more news organizations. In the coming year, news media’s focus will be affected by the personalization of news consumption and social media’s influence on journalism.

Media ownership and independence

Media ownership and independence: "Big business has owned media companies before. The undivided Birlas had Hindustan Times in Delhi and Searchlight in Patna; the Dalmia-Sahu Jain combine (which later split) had Bennett, Coleman (publishers of, among other titles, The Times of India and The Economic Times); and the Tatas had a connection with The Statesman in what was then Calcutta. Even The Indian Express’ Ramnath Goenka, while never in the same business league as the Big Three of the time, once owned the country’s largest jute mill (National Jute) and mounted a raid on Indian Iron and Steel."

Media check: How will print do in 2012? | Firstpost

Media check: How will print do in 2012? | Firstpost: "Not very different from the previous year — as far as trends are concerned.

Overall, print newspapers will be the big loser, but outdoor will also face the heat. Radio will continue to stagnate; digital will zoom. TV will find the going very, very tough as far as advertising revenue yields are concerned, even if their overall revenues go up. Let’s take them one at a time. Today, it’s print that’s the focus."
